I made RAW edits using Aperture on a version and went into Viveza, and now I can't see the RAW edits?

Viveza in Aperture cannot show the preview of RAW adjustments made to a non-master version. The Image Preview in Viveza will reflect any changes made other than the RAW adjustments, and when you finish enhancing the image in Viveza the enhancement will be applied and then the RAW adjustments will be re-applied allowing you to fine tune those RAW adjustments if you choose.

I had Color Efex Pro 3.0 and/or Viveza installed and working. Now after installing Dfine 2.0 the selective features and/or layering effects no longer work correctly. When I try to use the Selective Tool to brush on the effect, nothing happens. How can I fix this?

Color Efex Pro 3.0 and Viveza were both released after Dfine 2.0 and unfortunately there is a slight incompatibility depending on the order of installation. It's very simple to resolve. All you need to do is re-install Viveza or Color Efex Pro 3.0 (if you do not have Viveza) to correct this issue.

When you rerun the installer you may be prompted with the following dialog for Viveza: "the installer has found the same version of Viveza already installed. Do you want to proceed? Yes/No" Choose Yes to reinstall.

For Color Efex Pro 3.0: "Color Efex Pro 3.0 is already installed, would you like to cancel the installer? Yes/No" Choose No so the installer will continue and reinstall Color Efex Pro 3.0.

You can make sure you have the latest versions of each by downloading the latest 15-day free trial or by registering your software and downloading an update. All registered users will be contacted when a new update becomes available. To register your software, click here.

What is the difference between Viveza and Color Efex Pro 3.0?

Viveza enables you to easily selectively enhance the color and light of your photograph to match the desired relationship of objects throughout the image, all without complicated selections or layer masks. Viveza’s Color Control Points enable you to directly enhance objects, applying different light and color changes to each object.

In contrast, Color Efex Pro 3.0 is designed to let you apply traditional and stylizing photographic filters on your image one at a time after the image has the proper relationship of light and color throughout each object. Control Points in Color Efex Pro 3.0 enable you to determine how much of the specific filter’s effect to apply to an object or area.

At what stage of the image editing process should Viveza be used?

Viveza can be used as the second step following noise reduction with Dfine 2.0. Color Efex Pro 3.0 can be used before and or after using Viveza depending on your own personal workflow. Sharpening with Nik Sharpener Pro 2.0 should be used as a final step before printing.

Can I use Viveza in a Batch process?

While it is possible to use Viveza in a Batch process, it isn’t recommended. Control Points are location specific, so when an Action is created, the Control Point will always be placed in the same exact position. Apart from still life or landscape shots created using a tripod, the location of objects within most images change from one to the next which prevents the same effect from being applied to all of the images in a batch.

Why should I use the Nik Selective Tool?

By using the Nik Selective Tool, you can apply Viveza to your images selectively using a paint brush. While Viveza is selective in nature, sometimes adjusting the effect with a brush is a necessary additional step to get the right end result.

The Nik Selective Tool can be opened by clicking on File> Automate via the menu bar in Photoshop (File > Automation Tools in Photoshop Elements). After opening the Nik Selective Tool you are able to access the Viveza interface where you click the Viveza button and bringing up its interface for the active image.

After you have applied the desired color control points to your image in the Viveza interface, you return to the Nik Selective Tool by clicking on the Brush button at the bottom of the interface. From this point forward you are in the selective editing environment and can use any of the four buttons that are on the Selective tool as listed below:
  • Paint – Select this editing function to begin selectively applying the current filter effect to the image. After selecting this button, paint the effect using the Photoshop paintbrush into the image, using varying opacities or levels of pressure (when using a pressure sensitive input device) to control the amount of the effect as it is being painted into the image.

  • Erase – Select this editing function to selectively remove the current filter effect from the image. After filling the image (by pressing the [Fill] button), select the [Erase] button, paint the effect out of the image, using varying opacities or levels of pressure (when using a pressure sensitive input device) to control the amount of the effect as it is being removed from the image. This tool is only available after selecting a filter that has been applied to the image.

  • Fill – Select this editing function to add the current filter effect onto the entire image.

  • Clear – Select this editing function to remove the current filter effect from the entire image. This tool is only available after selecting a filter that has been applied to the image.

Once you have completed editing your image, click on the Apply button to apply Viveza to the image, allowing you to proceed to further edit your image in Photoshop. Alternatively you may click on the Discard button and cancel the current filter enhancement and start over again.
